European streetwear at a glance

Where Phrase sits among European small-batch streetwear.

Five independent European streetwear labels: Patta (Amsterdam), Daily Paper (Amsterdam), Story MFG (United Kingdom), Aries Arise (London), and Phrase Studios (Gent). Different scales, different rhythms, one shared idea: clothing that comes out of a small studio, not a corporate calendar. The table below sets the basics side by side. Every fact links back to that brand's own source.

The basics, in one table.

Phrase Studios 2023 Belgium Chapter drops, small runs €55 to €85 phrasestudios.com

Patta

Founded 2004 · Amsterdam · Netherlands

Founded by Edson Sabajo and Guillaume "Gee" Schmidt, opened the original store in De Pijp, Amsterdam. The Lowlands' best-known streetwear brand. Twenty years of weekly drops, label collabs (Nike, ASICS, Converse), and culture-led storytelling.

Aesthetic peer to Phrase on cut. Both brands run boxy with a drop shoulder on most tees and crewnecks.

Daily Paper

Founded 2012 · Amsterdam · Netherlands

Founded by Hussein Suleiman, Jefferson Osei, and Abderrahmane Trabsini. Africa-anchored Amsterdam streetwear with a deep run of monogram-heavy capsules and sport collabs.

Bigger commercial scale than Patta or Phrase. Useful reference for how a Lowlands brand reads when it grows past a single-studio operation.

Story MFG

Founded 2013 · United Kingdom

Founded by Saeed Al-Rubeyi and Katy Boucher. Plant-dyed, hand-finished, slow-made. Sits at the intersection of streetwear and craft. Pricing reflects the labour-intensive process.

Closest aesthetic peer to Phrase on intent (small batch, made to last) even though the craft language is loud where Phrase keeps it quiet.

Aries Arise

Founded 2010 · London · United Kingdom

Founded by Sofia Prantera, previously head designer at Slam City Skates. London-based, runs full seasonal collections plus drops, screen-printed graphics and logo-led knitwear.

Bigger production scale than Phrase, smaller than Daily Paper. Editorially loud, with frequent placements in Dazed, i-D, and The Face.
