Resurge was Phrase Studios' second chapter. It opened in 2024 and centred on a single idea: a heavyweight cotton jean cut and distressed to read as something that had been broken and put back together. The chapter title was direct. To resurge is to come back up.

420 GSM cotton
The fabric was 420 GSM cotton, woven heavy enough to hold a hard wash and a hard patch. Heavyweight denim typically sits between 12 and 16 ounces per square yard; Resurge sat at the upper end. The reason was structural: a jean that is going to be distressed and pieced together has to start denser than the finished piece will read.
“We made Resurge heavy because the chapter is about repair. You cannot repair a thin fabric without it falling away. Heavyweight cotton lets the distressing be honest. The piece survives the work that is done to it.”
The Resurge Jean
The Resurge Jean is the surviving piece from the run. A baggy-cut, distressed, deep-blue jean in 420 GSM cotton, finished by hand at the pocket and hem. Sizing runs XS to XL on a relaxed unisex fit. The piece sits in the catalogue as the only active item from Chapter 02; the rest of the run has moved into The Vault.
A chapter that finished
The Resurge run was small. The studio writes chapters with a finite end in mind, and Resurge closed as planned. The piece that survived is the piece that survived because it was the right one to carry the idea forward. The chapter is no longer being reprinted.

The Lowlands lineage
Resurge was the first chapter where the studio's lineage felt clear. The Lowlands, meaning Belgium and the Netherlands together, has a streetwear history rarely written about as one identity. Patta opened in Amsterdam in 2004. Daily Paper opened in Amsterdam in 2012. Equalité runs from Rotterdam. Phrase opened in Gent in 2023 and put a chapter format on the same lineage. Resurge was the chapter that made the lineage visible.
